Sperm Cryopreservation
Funding from both CRIS allows us to offer mouse cryopreservation service for less than the actual cost for strains that are in the public domain, i.e. published, or available to other researchers. The ongoing maintenance costs, e.g. liquid nitrogen, are also supported.
To encourage cryopreservation of unpublished strains a 2 year embargo is permitted on listing on the APB database and distribution to others. At the completion of the 2 years the embargo must be lifted or the depositor must pay for the full cryopreservation costs plus maintenance fee as outlined in the second table below.
The depositor will need to pay for shipping of the mice to the APB node and the caging of the mice until cryopreservation.
The depositor will be required to cover costs associated with breeding mice to produce donor animals for embryo cryopreservation.
All costs are in AUD, are exclusive of GST and are subject to change at any time.

Embryo Cryopreservation
Requests for Embryo cryopreservation are considered on a case by case basis.
Please see the Embryo Cryopreservation page for more information including animal requirements.
Depositor is eligible for financial support for embryo cryopreservation if:
- All of the basic support criteria above are met and,
- Strain cannot be frozen down as sperm due to loss of genetic integrity e.g. congenic strains.
Support does not cover
- Production of donors, depositor is responsible or the cost of producing the required number of animals of correct sex and age.
- Transportation of animals to cryopreservation facility
- Strain quality assurance
