Last Edited 11/05/2014
Strain name: B6;129-Nos2tm1Mrl/Apb
Nickname: Inos-/-
Strain designation name: B6;129-Nos2tm1Mrl
Strain Types Mutant strain
Genetic Details Targeted knockout
Mode of Inheritance Recessive
1.  Affected Gene Name: nitric oxide synthase 2, inducible, macrophage
Chromosome 11
Affected Gene Symbol Nos2
Protein expression of altered gene: Nil
Genetic alteration of gene: A neomycin selection cassette replaced a genomic fragment containing 585 bp of the promoter and exons 1-4. Northern blot analysis on RNA derived from various tissues of homozygous mice demonstrated that no detectable transcript was produced from this allele.
Location on chromosome (bp): 78734289-78773756 bp, + strand (From VEGA annotation of NCBI Build 37)

Synonyms iNOS, Nos-2, NOS-II, Nos2, Nos2a
Allele Name targeted mutation 1, John S Mudgett
Allele Symbol Nos2tm1Mrl
MGI Allele Accession ID MGI:2158791
Allele synonyms: iNOS KO, iNOS-, NOS2-, Nos2tm1Ntn
Mutant Construction Technique None
Phenotype Homozygous State Abnormal artery morphology: * the large arteries of the uterus during pregnancy have thickened arterial walls and smaller lumina. Abnormal circulating estradiol level: * the cyclic changes in estradiol level are abnormal in homozygous mutant females with the peak in estradiol concentration coming later than in 129/SvEv wild-type females. Abnormal uterus morphology: * the lining of the uterus during pregnancy shows a distinct lack of cellularity in homozygous female mutants compared to wild-type females. Abnormal oestrous cycle: * diestrus length is increased in homozygous mutant females compared to 129/SvEv wild-type mice without an increase in total oestrus cycle length Decreased litter size: * by mid-gestation homozygous female mutants have significantly fewer viable embryos compared to wild-type females.
